Customer Review: Expensive But Very Functional

I thought long and hard about purchasing a grip for my Leica D-Lux IV camera. I looked at a custom-made grip by Richard Franiek (sp?), but didn't feel like his grip protruded enough to allow for secure one-handed shooting. So at great expense (I want to say this was about $117?), I bought this Leica-produced grip.
There are drawbacks other than the price, such as that this grip screws onto the base of the camera in such a way as to block access to the battery compartment, so changing the battery is a pain for those of us who use this grip. We have to unscrew the grip and remove it to access the battery compartment. Time-consuming and annoying.
However, this grip works! It is very well made, very solid--a nice weight, such that it helps steady your hand while you're shooting. And the amount of protrusion of this grip allows for very secure one-handed shooting, a capability I find essential.
I found this grip to be worth my substantial financial outlay because the camera would have been much, much less usable without it. If I had it to do again, I would definitely purchase this grip.
